Smart Power Stage (SPS) Modules, Fairchild Semiconductor

The Smart Power Stage (SPS) module is a fully optimised, ultra-compact, designed for non-isolated DC-DC power applications. The module integrates a MOSFET gate driver with a bootstrap Schottky diode, two power MOSFETs, and a thermal monitor. It comes in a thermally enhanced ultra-compact 5 x 5 mm PQFN package and Dual Cool™ Architecture.
The SPS switching power stage is optimised for dynamic performance, with minimum system inductance, and high-power output.

The MOSFET gate driver offers reduced dead times and propagation delays
The PowerTrench MOSFET technology reduces switch ringing, and eliminates the need for a snubber circuit in most DC-DC converter applications
A thermal warning function alerts of a potential overheating which can lead to thermal shutdown
Light-load efficiency is improved with auto-DCM mode, a low side gate turn-off
The SPS module finally provides 3-State PWM input gate driver for compatibility with PWM controllers
